Liberalism: The Illusion of ‘Freedom’ and Its Ideological Foundations

Liberalism: The Illusion of 'Freedom' and Its Ideological Foundations 🌍✨

The moment we hear the word Liberalism, the very first thought that comes to mind is freedom. Liberalism is fundamentally derived from the English word 'Liberty', which literally means "freedom." Thus, it is entirely accurate to say that Liberalism translates to "the cult of freedom" or "the pursuit of liberty." According to some lexicographers, it also traces its roots back to the Latin word 'Liberalis', meaning "a generous, noble, or free person." This is the core foundational meaning upon which the entire edifice of modern liberalism is constructed. Nowadays, the term 'Liberal' is generally used for people who consider themselves to be "intellectually free."

But is this freedom truly as simple and innocent as it appears?

A close reading of the recently published research paper, "Human-Centric Freedom: A Critical Review of the Ideological Foundations of Liberalism," clearly reveals that this seemingly attractive philosophy of liberalism stands upon four major pillars:

👇 1. Anthropocentrism (Human-Centrism)

Definition: According to liberalism, the universe revolves solely around the human being and their self. Under this ideology, human intellect and material desires are the ultimate truths, and humanity requires no divine guidance or supernatural intervention.

Critique: The greatest flaw of this mindset is that it has severed humans from their Creator, trapping them in the delusion of self-proclaimed divinity. As a result, humans have become entangled in the web of their own limited intellect, turning carnal desires into their gods and becoming completely deprived of true spiritual peace. This has ultimately led to the justification of unnatural relationships, the legalization of vulgarity, and even the decriminalization of various intoxicants—all of which are contributing to an unprecedented rise in the number of mental and psychological patients, even in developed countries.

👇 2. Individualism

Definition: This concept prioritizes the absolute freedom and importance of the individual over the family and society. It asserts that every person has the absolute right to live life entirely on their own terms, even if it shatters long-standing societal traditions.

Critique: This unrestrained individualism has torn apart our social fabric and dealt a severe blow to the traditional family system. Instead of sharing each other's joys and sorrows, modern humans have become intensely selfish, isolated, and victims of deep depression.

👇 3. Hedonism (Pleasure-Seeking)

Definition: This views the ultimate and sole purpose of human life as the maximization of material happiness and physical pleasure. For hedonists, any action that brings temporary gratification to an individual is entirely justified, regardless of how wrong it may be from a moral or religious standpoint.

Critique: This dangerous trend has degraded humans to the level of mere slaves to their desires, whose only goal is self-gratification. This rampant materialism has completely buried supreme human values such as selflessness, empathy, modesty, and spiritual purity.

👇 4. Empiricism (Experience-Based Knowledge)

Definition: According to this foundation, the sole criterion for knowledge and truth is that which can be perceived by our physical senses or verified through material experiments in a laboratory. Anything that cannot immediately pass the test of science or empirical reason (such as religion, divine revelation, or faith in the unseen) is outright rejected.

Critique: The biggest tragedy of this theory is that it completely denies the vast unseen and spiritual realm of the universe, which is undeniably beyond the reach of human senses. The truth is that a sustainable moral consciousness and a higher purpose of life can never be born out of a belief system restricted strictly to material objects.

Food for Thought... 🤔

Can human beings ever find true peace by breaking free from every single restraint? The slogan of freedom is undoubtedly very attractive. However, when this freedom is cut off from divine guidance and human nature, and becomes entirely subordinate to desires—what is the ultimate end?

Does this so-called 'unbridled freedom' truly liberate humans, or does it ensnare them into a new, invisible trap of carnal desires and whims?
